Chipotle Hanger Steak with Sour Cream Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Serves: 4


  • 1 tbsp chopped chipotle chiles, canned in adobe sauce

  • 2 tsp adobe sauce

  • 2 tsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp black pepper, divided

  • 5/8 tsp kosher salt, divided

  • 1 16oz hanger steak (if the steak is thicker than 1 inch it may require longer cooking)

  • 1 24oz packet refrigerated masked sweet potatoes

  • ½ cup light sour cream

  • 2 tbsp sliced green onions


  1. Heat a grill pan over a medium-high heat

  2. Mix the chipotle, adobo sauce, oil, ¼ tsp black pepper and 3/8 tsp salt and rub mixture evenly over both side of the steak.

  3. Cook steak on the grill pan for 3-4 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.

  4. Transfer steak to a cutting board and let stand for 5 minutes.

  5. Slice steak into this slices across the grain.

  6. Heat the potatoes according to package instructions.

  7. Stir in sour cream and remaining pepper and salt.

  8. To serve divide steak and potatoes between plates and sprinkle with onions.
